Another location for significant heat loss is in the attic. This fact is especially true for loose fill insulation such as blown cellulose and fiberglass.
Convective heat loss occurs in loose fill insulation when dense cold air drops and lighter warm air rises through the insulation. Loose fill insulation such as fiberglass, cellulose and rock wool do not control this type of heat loss. Spray foam insulation does control this type of heat loss because there is no air movement through the insulation material.
